Asset Tagging Techniques
There several tagging solutions but presently, we offer Barcode/QR code tagging system, RFID and GPS tagging system. Selecting the best asset tagging technique requires you knowing how each technique works and which best aligns with your business needs It’s best to choose the type of asset tagging approach that works for your organization.. Here’s a quick look at the different approaches to tagging assets.
1. Barcode tagging technique
Barcodes are black and white stripes hosting information of an asset. These stripes are imprinted on an asset tags and managed using a barcode scanner. Barcode tracking is a an easy-to-use automated way to track assets. It requires building a unique barcode numbering system for the asset to be managed. They are easy to implement and cost-effective, used in offices, stores, logistics, and all other sectors.
Benefits of Barcode Asset Tracking
2. QR-Code tagging technique
QR(Quick Response) codes are 2Dimensional barcodes asset tracking system(slightly different from barcode) that can store more information (up to 4000 characters or 7000 digits) than traditional barcodes. Information like asset description, history maintenance etc. they are not only used for brand marketing and campaigns, they are used on coupons, educational institutes, industries, entertainment event etc.
Benefits of QR-Code Tags
3. RFID Tagging Technique
It’s a radio frequency asset tracking system usually used in large scale facilities that requires real-time monitoring. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags use radio waves to transmit information to an RFID reader which is transferred into asset management software where the data is then monitored for use.
Basic RFID Requirement
- RFID Tag(stores comprehensive data about the asset. E.g. Asset condition, location maintenance history, etc.)
- RFID Antenna(identifies signal from RFID Tag)
- RFID Reader(wirelessly attached to the antenna to receive data stored in the rfid tag. This data is then transmitted to an asset tracking software for further evaluation)
- Fixed asset tracking software; contains asset database for asset monitoring and management
Key Advantage of RFID over Barcode system
4. GPS Tagging Technique
This asset tagging and tracking system promotes real-time asset management. Due to its precise geographic coordinates, GPS method is commonly used for tracking moveable high-value asset, mobile asset, equipment and assets spread across multiple locations. GPS can be found in microchips, smartphones, satellite navigation systems, vehicles, equipment, etc. GPS trackers working over a string of connected satellite system networks, enables users to track anyone or anything in real-time.
